Our 2005 Actual Expenses

We hit the road at the first of August 2005. The table below shows our actual expenses through 2005. We keep track of every single penny we spend so we can make sure that what we report here is absolutely accurate.

Our budget, excluding amounts we paid up front as described in the next paragraph, was $50 per day, $1,500 per month, and $18,000 per year.

While we were still employed, we paid several items up front for a year - health insurance, life insurance, RV insurance, truck insurance, an umbrella policy, satellite internet, satellite TV, and RV club memberships. Since these expenses were not actually paid during the time we were on the road, they are not included in the expenses below. However, they are included on our Our Up Front Costs To Get Started page and are also shown at the bottom of this page. Such expenses will be included in the month they occur in all subsequent Actual Expense pages.

(3) Satellite Internet - Direcway service through Motosat; $1,128.60 annually (5% Discount for Annual Plan)

(4) Satellite TV - DirecTV; $744 annually; Total Choice Basic 43.00 + DVR (TIVO) 5.00 + Add'l Receiver 5.00 + Distant Network Service (New York & Los Angeles network channels ABC East & West, CBS East & West, Fox East & West, NBC East & West) 9.00

(5) Truck Insurance - Drive From Progressive; $729.30 annually for $250,000 per person/$500,000 per accident coverage; $1,000 deductible; $48,000 Comp&Collision coverage

(6) Health, Life & Umbrella Insurance -
Health Insurance: Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO with Health Savings Account; $2,365.80 annually covers both of us; $4,800 deductible

Life Insurance: MetLife; $953.00 annually covers both of us; $250,000 coverage each; level premium for 30 years; convertible to permanent life to age 70

Umbrella Policy: RLI Ins Co; $200.00 annually; $1,000,000 coverage each accident; $500 deductible
